
Lucknow, February 23 Members of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) protested the alleged closure of a place within Lucknow University, claiming that Muslim students have been offering prayers for many years.
NSUI is the student wing of the Congress party.
An official of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), affiliated with the RSS, stated that if prayers are offered inside Lucknow University, they too will recite Hanuman Chalisa in the university.
Aryan Mishra, the vice president of NSUI's UP unit, said on Monday that the lock was put on the Laal Baradari within Lucknow University on Saturday, where Muslim students have been offering prayers for many years.
On Sunday evening, Mishra said that Muslim students offered prayers with NSUI volunteers guarding them, and added that people have been offering prayers for many years, and the university administration has locked the mosque.
He added that Muslim students offer prayers at the mosque, while Hindu students offer prayers at a temple near gate number 1.
