Lunglei, February 26, 2026: A health assessment camp for people with disabilities was organized today at the Putlungasih village under the Lungsen Revenue Department (RD) block, as part of Project LEAP (Lunglei's Empowerment for Access and Equity for All Persons), an initiative undertaken under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, Lunglei.
The camp was conducted by a medical team led by Senior Specialist (Orthopedic Surgeon) Dr. Joseph Lalrindika Chawngthu. The team included an audiologist, clinical psychologist, ophthalmic assistant, members of the National Cardiovascular Disease (NCD) Medical Team, officials from the Social Welfare Department, and staff from the Lungsen Block Development Office.
A total of 32 people with disabilities from Putlungasih and neighboring villages—Bolia, Zawlpui, Tuisenchhuah, Belthei, and Kauchhuah—attended the camp. In addition to disability assessment, individuals who had not yet obtained their Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards were registered on the UDID portal to facilitate issuance.
Assistive devices to be provided through the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), including wheelchairs, hearing aids, walking sticks, crutches, and other necessary aids, were identified and recommended for eligible beneficiaries. Screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and other health conditions was also carried out under the Healthy Lunglei District Campaign.
