Mumbai, April 1 – Actress Mona Singh, who is preparing for the release of her upcoming streaming series ‘Maa Ka Sum’, has urged people to avoid glorifying the pain of their mothers.
In the series, Singh plays the role of Vinitha, a modern single mother who is navigating love, life, and self-discovery on her own terms.
Speaking about this, she said, “I believe it’s important, especially for younger audiences, to see their mothers as individuals first. They have dreams, emotions, and a life beyond just being a parent. If this story can help people understand and accept that, I think that’s a beautiful takeaway.”
At the heart of this coming-of-age drama series is a 19-year-old boy trying to “solve” his mother’s love life using mathematics, algorithms, and logic, while she is simply trying to feel something real again. Mona Singh talks about why her character is different from stereotypical mother roles and what drew her to this role.
Speaking about her character, Singh shared, “I have played mothers before, but Vinita felt very different to me. She is not written as this perfect, sacrificing figure we have seen for years. For a long time, we have put mothers on a pedestal, where their entire identity is about giving and giving. But Vinita breaks away from that. She is a mother, yes, but she is also a woman with her own life, her own choices, and her own desires. She wants companionship, she is open to dating, and she is figuring things out on her own terms. That honesty is what really drew me to the character; it felt real and very relevant”.
Produced by Babita Ashiwal under the banner of Eunoia Films, ‘Maa Ka Sum’ also stars Mihir Ahuja, Angira Dhar, and Ranveer Brar in the lead roles.
The series is set to premiere on Prime Video in Hindi, with subtitles in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, on April 3, 2026.
