Mumbai, March 24 A man attempted to set himself on fire near the Maharashtra Assembly here on Tuesday afternoon over a dispute related to access to his agricultural land in the Latur district, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Usha Mehta Chowk, according to an official.
Jyotiram Sahebrao Chavan, a resident of Renapur, poured a non-flammable liquid on himself in a desperate attempt to draw attention to his grievance, he said.
He was taken to the Marine Drive police station, where he was booked for a non-cognisable offence, the official said.
