Maharashtra Bypoll Announced for Rahuri Constituency

Maharashtra Bypoll Announced for Rahuri Constituency.webp

Mumbai, April 1 The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Akshay Shivaji Kardile for the upcoming Rahuri assembly constituency by-election in Maharashtra, officials said on Wednesday.

The by-election, scheduled for April 23, was necessitated following the death of BJP legislator Shivaji Kardile.

The BJP, in a statement on Tuesday, announced its son Akshay Kardile's candidature for the by-election to the Rahuri assembly seat in the Ahilyanagar district.

The by-election to the Baramati assembly constituency in Pune district, which fell vacant in January due to the death of then Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, is also scheduled for April 23.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said last month that all efforts would be made to ensure that the by-elections to the Baramati and Rahuri assembly seats are held unopposed through consensus, but asserted that the BJP was prepared if it came down to a contest.

The last date for filing nominations is April 6. Polling will be held on April 23 and counting of votes will be undertaken on May 4.
