Jalna, March 29 The administration in Maharashtra's Jalna district has sealed the site of a multi-modal dry port project due to unpaid land revenue dues of Rs 52 lakh, an official said on Sunday.
A team led by Tehsildar Chhaya Pawar carried out the sealing operation at the project site in Daregaon on Saturday after the project authorities reportedly failed to respond to multiple recovery notices, he said.
According to revenue officials, the seal will be lifted at the site, which covers 495 acres, only after full recovery of the dues amounting to Rs 52 lakh.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and National Highways Logistics Management Limited were jointly developing the multi-modal logistics park (dry port) project. The facility was recently handed over to Chandrapur-based Vikas Coal and Minerals Pvt. Ltd. for operations for the next 15 years.
Once operational, the facility will provide key logistics infrastructure, including a container yard, warehousing facilities, container handling services, and a truck terminal.
The foundation stone for the project was laid in 2015, and it was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024.
However, despite the formal inauguration, the project has not yet become fully operational. Key infrastructure, including the boundary wall, railway connectivity linking to the South Central Railway line at Dinegaon, administrative buildings, and warehouses, has been developed, but several crucial aspects remain incomplete.
With most of the physical infrastructure now nearing completion, the authorities had expected to begin operations in the coming month.
