New Delhi, March 24 Rajya Sabha BJP member Medha Vishram Kulkarni expressed concern on Tuesday over the increasing number of missing women, including minor girls, across the country, and demanded an effective mechanism for investigating such cases.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour in the House, the BJP MP cited data from Maharashtra, stating that over 93,000 women, including 23,000 minor girls, were reported missing in the years 2024 and 2025.
Of these, approximately 28,000 are still missing, Kulkarni said.
"In Maharashtra, 132 women go missing every day," she stated, adding that such cases are on the rise in cities like Mumbai, New Mumbai, Nagpur, and Pune.
Wondering about the fate of the missing women, she inquired whether they had been sold to other countries, killed, abused, or become victims of "love jihad."
"Where have these women and minor girls gone?," she asked.
Kulkarni further stated that it has come to light that an organized human trafficking racket is active. In addition, "love jihad" cases are on the rise.
"Such incidents are on the rise, but the investigation rate is very low," she said.
Emphasizing that this is a serious problem, the BJP member demanded the establishment of an effective and efficient investigation mechanism.
She also suggested that CCTV cameras should be installed at all key locations and monitored regularly.
Sulata Dev (BJD) also raised the issue of the trafficking of girls.
She stated that there are networks that force little girls to beg at traffic lights and places like railway stations.
Dev said that the government will set up a task force to combat such networks.
