Mumbai, March 10 Two individuals were arrested and given a two-day jail sentence by the privileges committee of the Maharashtra legislature in connection with a scuffle on the Vidhan Bhavan premises last year, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar informed the House on Tuesday.

The two individuals, identified as Nitin Deshmukh and Sarjerao Takle, were arrested on February 27 and released the following day, he said.

Speaking in the Lower House of the legislature, Narwekar said the privileges committee had sentenced them to two days of imprisonment for their involvement in pushing and fighting inside the Vidhan Bhavan premises during the monsoon session of the state legislature last year.

Deshmukh is a supporter of NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad, while Takle is a follower of BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar. The two were involved in a scuffle during the session, following which the matter was referred to the privileges committee.

Narwekar said both the accused were arrested as per the punishment given by the committee.
