The Government of Maharashtra today launched year-long initiatives to commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of the great social reformer and revolutionary icon, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tributes to Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule by offering floral wreaths at their memorial in Khanwadi, the ancestral village of Phule in Pune.
The Chief Minister also inspected facilities at the ‘Jyoti Savitri Zilla Parishad School’ complex and visited an educational exhibition showcasing innovative initiatives by the Zilla Parishad, where he interacted with students and reviewed their projects.
To mark the occasion, the state’s School Education Department has announced a year-long action plan beginning today, covering educational, social, and cultural activities across all schools. As part of the initiative, books on the life and work of Mahatma Phule will be introduced to encourage reading habits, and school libraries will be developed into ‘Knowledge Centers’.
Lectures, webinars, seminars, and discussions based on his philosophy will also be organized, with special focus on his ideals of women's education, social justice, and equality.
