Chandigarh, March 12 Suchitra Devi, general secretary of the Haryana Pradesh Mahila Congress, has been expelled from the party just days after she alleged that money was demanded in exchange for an assembly election ticket to her.

Pearl Choudhary, president of the Haryana Mahila Congress, issued the orders expelling her from the Mahila Congress.

Haryana Congress president Rao Narender Singh dismissed on Monday the allegations that party leaders demanded money from Suchitra and her husband Gaurav Kumar in exchange for an assembly election ticket to Suchitra as "baseless."

Suchitra recently said that she had resigned from the Mahila Congress last month.

"It has come to the attention of the organization that you have made statements in newspapers making baseless and wild allegations against party office bearers, which are far from the truth. Such statements are clearly against the party and detrimental to the interests and discipline of the organization," said the order issued by Choudhary.

It has also been observed that these actions appear to have been carried out at the behest of certain detractors with the intent to damage the image, functioning, and credibility of the Haryana Pradesh Mahila Congress, as per the expulsion order dated March 11.

"After due consideration of the matter, the organization has taken a serious view of your conduct. Accordingly, you are hereby expelled from the Haryana Pradesh Mahila Congress with immediate effect for engaging in activities that violate organizational discipline and run contrary to the interests of the party," it stated.

Choudhary was appointed as the chief of Haryana Mahila Congress last month.

"Where were they (Suchitra and her husband) for the past one-and-a-half years? They had met me earlier, and she (Suchitra) had expressed a desire to become the president of the Haryana Mahila Congress. I told her that this would be decided by the party," Haryana Congress chief Singh said on Monday.

Recently, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari had alleged that Gaurav Kumar claimed that the Congress leadership tried to "extort" Rs 7 crore from the couple in exchange for giving his wife a party ticket from the Bawal assembly constituency.

Speaking at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Bhandari had said Kumar shared alleged WhatsApp chats involving personal assistants of senior Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and described them as "prima facie proof of corruption".

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi also cited Kumar's claims to allege that the Congress was "corrupt to the core".
