Maintaining Law and Order Ahead of Elections.webp

Commissioner and Secretary of the District Council Affairs Department, CVD Diengdoh, announced on Tuesday that the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed in Garo Hills in preparation for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections. In addition, a column of the Army has also conducted a flag march in the region to maintain law and order and instill confidence among the public.

Diengdoh stated that there have been reports of two casualties following incidents of violence in the areas leading up to the elections. However, he informed that despite the situation, the nomination process for the council elections is continuing in other districts of Garo Hills.

He further stated that the State Government is closely monitoring the developments and continuously assessing the law and order situation. "The government is carefully analyzing the situation," he said, adding that no decision has been taken to postpone the elections at this time.

The official also assured that necessary measures are being taken to ensure peace and security in the region while the election process continues.
