Kolkata, April 1 West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's helicopter could not land at Nabagram in Murshidabad district on Wednesday due to a sudden thunderstorm during her election campaign, officials said.
The helicopter was forced to return to Burwan as a thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds swept the area around 2.10 pm, a district official said.
"After returning to Burwan, Banerjee left for Nabagram by road," the official added.
Banerjee had earlier addressed a meeting at Burwan and was on her way to address another rally at Nabagram when the weather conditions deteriorated.
Last week, Banerjee's aircraft from Andal in Paschim Bardhaman encountered inclement weather while attempting to land at Kolkata airport and eventually landed after about an hour, officials said.
The elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in two phases - on April 23 and 29. Votes will be counted on May 4.
