Hyderabad, March 14 A 24-year-old man is alleged to have administered HIV-infected blood to a 22-year-old woman after her parents called off her wedding with him following his positive test for the virus, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred on March 11, when the accused forcibly injected the victim with HIV-infected blood at her house.
According to police, the accused and the victim are related, and her parents initially planned her marriage with him.
As the man's parents were already HIV positive, the woman's parents had the man tested for the virus in September last year.
"When he (the man) was found to be HIV positive during the check-up, the woman's father cancelled her marriage with him," a police official said, adding that the accused allegedly thought that she would marry him and stay with him forever.
Based on a complaint from the woman's father, a case was registered at the Pocharam IT Corridor police station against the accused for attempted murder, and he was apprehended, police added.
The woman has been admitted to a hospital. Further investigation is underway.
