
Moirang (Manipur), April 7 At least four people were injured after a clash erupted when a mob attacked a security forces camp in Manipur's Bishnupur district on Tuesday, officials said.
The clash occurred after a large group of protesters stormed a central force camp, located about 200 meters from Tronglaobi, and vandalized it, they said.
The protesters also set fire to several vehicles parked inside the camp.
"It is not yet clear who fired the shots and from where," police said, adding that at least four people have sustained gunshot injuries.
Earlier, a police bomb squad defused a locally made mortar shell in Bishnupur.
Meanwhile, all shops and markets, along with educational institutions, remained closed in Imphal valley districts in the wake of the killing of two children in a bomb attack.
Protesters set fire to tyres in Khurai, Wamgkhei, and Yairipok in Imphal East district, and in Kwakeithel and Thangmeiband areas in Imphal West district.
Protesters, mostly women, blocked the movement of security forces at Kha Potsangbam in Bishnupur district and along the road from Imphal to Moirang.
Two children and their mother were injured in a bomb attack in Bishnupur district on Tuesday, triggering protests by locals, police said.
The incident occurred around 1 am when a bomb was thrown by suspected militants at a house in the Moirang Tronglaobi area, killing a 5-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl, a senior officer said.
Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh described the attack as a "barbaric act" and assured the people that those responsible for the crime would be identified and dealt with firmly under the law.
The two children and their mother were sleeping in their bedroom when the bomb exploded in the house, the police officer said.
Locals staged a protest this morning and set fire to two oil tankers and a truck near a petrol pump in the area. They also burnt tyres in front of the Moirang Police Station and destroyed a makeshift police outpost.
Security forces have been deployed in the area to control the situation, the officer said.
