Imphal, March 16 Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam stated on Monday that the peace agreement with the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) is in effect, and the outfit has 1,435 "verified cadres".
The outfit signed a peace agreement in November 2023.
Konthoujam was responding to a question from Congress MLA Surjakumar Okram regarding the current status of the peace agreement between the UNLF(P), the Manipur government, and the Centre.
"The peace agreement is in effect. The total number of UNLF(P) cadres, verified so far, is 1,435. Currently, a monthly stipend of Rs 6,000 per cadre is being provided," the home minister said.
"The Centre has so far released Rs 5.83 crore in five installments from December 2023 to April 2024. We have now proposed to pay Rs 5.16 crore for the months from May 2024 to October 2024. We are working to clear the outstanding payments," he added.
