
Imphal, February 20 Security forces have arrested four militants belonging to various banned groups in Manipur for their alleged involvement in extortion activities, police said on Friday.
Two members of the banned People's Liberation Army were apprehended in the Makha area of Imphal West district and Porompat in Imphal East on Thursday, according to a police statement.
"One 9 mm pistol with a magazine, and four live rounds were recovered from their possession," the statement said.
An active member of the outlawed Prepak (Pro) was also arrested from Khewa Bazar in Imphal East district on Thursday.
A member of the banned UPPK was apprehended in the Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai area in Bishnupur district a day before, the police statement said.
In a separate operation, security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the Keirak Awang Loukon Chingol area in Kakching district, it said.
Security forces have been conducting search operations in Manipur since the ethnic violence broke out two years ago.
More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in the ethnic strife between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023.
