Shillong, April 7 The Meghalaya Board of School Education announced the results of the class 12 examination on Tuesday, with 86.84 per cent of students passing, slightly lower than last year's 87.10 per cent, officials said.

A total of 48,623 candidates appeared for the examination, of whom 42,228 passed. Boys recorded a pass percentage of 94.14, while 92.88 per cent of the girls passed the exam, they said.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma congratulated the students, stating on X: "Congratulations to our dear students who passed their #SSLC examinations. Kudos to the toppers who have done their parents, teachers and schools proud! Wishing each of you a successful future. May you always shine!"

Waangal Lama of Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School, Shillong, topped the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination (SSLC), securing 585 marks. Vishal Kumar of Embee Rosebud Higher Secondary School, Tura, secured the second position with 576 marks, the officials said.

Prajukta Roy of Seven Set Higher Secondary School, Shillong, and Prinita Das of Pechon A Sangma Memorial Police Public School, Tura, shared the third position with 575 marks each, they said.

West Jaintia Hills recorded the highest pass percentage at 94.99 per cent, followed by South West Khasi Hills (94.60) and East Khasi Hills (94.17), they added.
