The Federation of Piggery Farmers in Meghalaya has expressed serious concerns about the spread of African Swine Fever, which has resulted in the death of hundreds of pigs and widespread devastation of pig herds across the state. With no known cure, farmers are facing significant financial losses, inadequate compensation, and delayed veterinary assistance. Chairman Prosper Dorphang urged the government to declare a State Agricultural Emergency and deploy rapid-response teams. The federation also raised concerns about the influx of cheaper pigs from other states, calling for stricter inspections.
