Kolkata, April 6 Services on the Blue line of Kolkata Metro were disrupted for half an hour on Monday after a 35-year-old man attempted suicide at the M G Road station, an official said.
The incident occurred at 11:35 am, and the man, who jumped in front of an approaching train, was immediately rescued by alert Metro personnel, a Metro spokesperson said.
Normal services resumed along the entire Blue line – between Dakshineswar and Sahid Khudiram – starting at 12:05 pm.
In the meantime, truncated services operated between Maidan and Sahid Khudiram and DumDum-Dakshineswar stations.
The youth was taken to the hospital.
On April 4, in a similar incident, a 40-year-old woman jumped onto the tracks at the Kalighat station and was rescued after the driver stopped the train in time.
There have been similar suicide attempts on the Blue Line in the past.
The Metro authorities regularly make announcements on public address systems at stations on the Blue Line – where such attempts have been made – to encourage people to think about their loved ones and to understand that a hasty decision can end all hopes and possibilities in someone's life, and to approach the counselors whose numbers are displayed in the anti-suicidal campaigns put up in different parts of the platform.
