Mumbai, February 17 Michael Jones' brisk 71 helped Scotland score a competitive 170/7 against Nepal in their inconsequential T20 World Cup Group C match here on Tuesday.
Both teams were out of contention for the Super Eights, as the West Indies and England advanced to the next round from the group.
Besides Jones, who hit eight fours and three sixes in his 45-ball innings, the Scottish batsmen failed to capitalize on their starts but still managed to reach a competitive total on a flat pitch here.
Jones was the main contributor in his 80-run opening partnership with George Munsey, who failed to gain momentum despite staying at the crease until the halfway mark of Scotland's innings.
While Jones comfortably hit boundaries with the sweet part of his bat, Munsey could only manage 27 runs off 29 balls with four boundaries.
Munsey's frustration at not being able to get going was evident when he was dismissed on the final ball of the 10th over, hitting a full toss from Rohit Paudel with the toe end of his bat. The Scottish opener then slammed his bat in frustration as Sundeep Jora completed a fine diving catch in front of him at long-on.
However, Jora and Nepal appeared to have claimed a catch when McMullen hit one off Nandan Yadav on the first ball of the 14th over.
Positioned at mid-on, Jora did not have to move more than five paces, but he kept his eye on the ball. When the ball eventually came back to him, Jora didn't realize that it went through his hands and hit the ground, causing him to fall.
Jones continued to hit big shots and smashed a 94-meter hit straight into the balcony of his dressing room, with the ball landing in the hands of his teammate, Tom Bruce.
However, Jones' innings ended soon after when Kami, bowling from the other end in the 16th over, dismissed the Scotland opener and took a brilliant one-handed catch off McMullen.
Scotland lost momentum in the later half, especially after the dismissal of Jones, with Kami returning 3/25 and Nandan Yadav taking 2/34.
