
February 25, Kohima: The Angami community celebrated its premier festival, Sekrenyi, along with a Mini Hornbill event organized by the Angami Public Organisation and sponsored by the Nagaland Tourism department, at the Sovima Village Council ground today.
The event was attended by Minister for Tourism & Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, as the Chief Guest, and Advisor for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, as the Guest of Honour, along with other prominent leaders.
In his address, Minister Along praised the inclusive celebration, emphasizing unity among Naga tribes, the preservation of indigenous culture alongside Christian faith, and responsible leadership.
Minister Along highlighted Sekrenyi as a festival of purification, urging communities to overcome division and strengthen trust.
APO President, Thejao Vihienuo, reflected on the spiritual roots of Sekrenyi, noting that while ancestral rituals are no longer practiced, the festival's essence of renewal, dedication, and cultural identity remains profoundly meaningful.
