Minister Jayant Chaudhary, responsible for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, stated today that skill development should not be solely for the purpose of acquiring skills, but must offer a strong value proposition for both students and employers.
Speaking at the NCVET (National Council for Vocational Education and Training) Capacity Building and Awareness Workshop for Awarding Bodies in New Delhi, he said that Skill India is a collective national effort where collaboration is key, dynamism is the result, and employability and entrepreneurship are the ultimate goals.
Highlighting a key challenge, Mr. Chaudhary said that most young people in India follow a fixed academic path, often opting for higher education, while vocational training is considered only as a last resort. He emphasized the need to change this perception by building confidence in skill-based education. He also stressed that trainers must stay connected with industry developments.
