
Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, emphasized today that the country must move beyond incremental reforms to achieve the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). He made this statement while chairing a high-level consultation in New Delhi on Accelerating Domestic Coal Production in Light of Policy Reforms, with a focus on strengthening India's energy security. Highlighting the guiding principles of Reform, Perform, Transform, and Inform, the Minister called for comprehensive changes across the entire coal value chain, including exploration, auctions, approvals, operations, financing, and scientific mine closure. Emphasizing coal gasification and increased private sector participation, Mr. Reddy called for coordinated efforts and sustained policy support to expedite domestic coal production.
Addressing the event, Secretary of the Coal Ministry, Vikram Dev Dutt, stated that policy-driven reforms have transformed the coal sector into a more transparent, competitive, and efficient ecosystem. He noted that initiatives such as commercial coal mining, the Single Window Clearance System, and digital reforms have improved ease of doing business and accelerated mine operationalization.
