Mira-Bhayandar Court Proposal Sparks Legal Opposition

Mira-Bhayandar Court Proposal Sparks Legal Opposition.webp

Thane, Apr 6 Lawyers have opposed a state government's proposal to establish a separate district and sessions court and a civil court (senior division) in Mira-Bhayandar, citing concerns over its impact on the existing judicial system and the legal fraternity.

A special general body meeting of the Thane District Courts Bar Association was held on Monday at the district court premises.

During the meeting, members discussed the possible consequences of setting up separate courts in Mira-Bhayandar, including its effect on the functioning of the Thane court, the distribution of judicial work, and access to justice for litigants, an association spokesman said.

Members said that the move could also affect the profession of lawyers and the facilities available to litigants.

As part of their protest, the bar body has decided that its members will wear black ribbons and hold a symbolic demonstration during court proceedings on April 7 and 8.

They further warned that if the proposal is not withdrawn within two days, members will abstain from court proceedings until the plan is scrapped.

The resolution will be communicated to the Bombay High Court, the Thane district court, and relevant government authorities, the association said.
