Beed (Maharashtra), March 11 A four-year-old boy who had gone missing has been found dead in a well in the Beed district of Maharashtra, police said on Wednesday.
The child went missing around 5 pm on Monday while playing outside his house in the Javala village in the Dharur tehsil, they said.
His family members and villagers searched for him, but unsuccessfully. They later alerted the Sirsala police, who launched a search operation, inspecting abandoned houses, the local school premises, and wells in the village.
During the search, the child's body was found on Tuesday, submerged in a well located on a farm near his house, a police official said.
The police retrieved the body and sent it to the Dharur rural hospital for post-mortem examination, the official said.
The villagers suspect the child accidentally fell into the well while trying to pick or eat tamarind fruits from a tree located near its edge.
