The week-long celebration of Chapchar Kut, the most important and joyous traditional festival of the Mizos, culminated in a grand finale across Mizoram. The celebrations in Aizawl were particularly significant, with state Chief Minister Lalduhoma attending as ‘Kut Pa’ (father of the festival) at Lammual.

The theme for the 2026 celebration in Aizawl, Lammual, is “Zonun Ze Mawi – Inremna” (Preserving Our Culture – Tradition). As a public holiday, people from all walks of life, young and old, dressed in traditional attire, gathered at the festival venue, where the joyous celebrations lasted throughout the day.

Addressing the grand Chapchar Kut celebration at Lammual in Aizawl, ‘Kut Pa’ Lalduhoma said, "Chapchar Kut marks the beginning of farming, which is the primary source of livelihood for our agrarian ancestors." He appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony during the festival.

He encouraged the Mizos across the globe to live in peace and harmony, keeping in line with this year's festival theme, “Zonun Ze Mawi – Inremna.” He urged people to choose peace and harmony over violence during this auspicious occasion, expressing hope that the festival would strengthen unity and goodwill within the community.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Mizo traditional values, such as respect for elders, selfless service, mutual understanding, and helping each other in times of need, are fundamental to maintaining social harmony and unity. He also spoke about the wisdom of Mizo ancestors, which continues to provide valuable guidance for both community well-being and economic progress.

During the Chapchar Kut celebration at Lammual in Aizawl, exuberant dancers performed to the tunes of traditional music and songs, while popular Mizo dances, including Cheraw, vapual lam, salu lam, sarlamkai, chai, parlam, rallu lam, and siktuithiang lam, were performed by various cultural troupes. In addition, various Mizo traditional practices, such as lengkhawm zai, costume parade, darbu zaipawl, mizo indigenous games, pawnto, and chawnghnawh (stuffing boiled eggs/biscuits into each other's mouths), which showcased Mizo culture, were demonstrated by individuals and groups.
