Mizoram Accord Fosters Peace and Development, Says VP Radhakrishnan.webp

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan described the peace accord signed between the Government of India and Mizoram as one of the most successful agreements ever concluded in the country, attributing it to ensuring lasting peace and development in the state.

Speaking at the 20th convocation ceremony of Mizoram University, the Vice President said that Mizoram is now regarded as the most peaceful state in India. He noted that the accord not only brought an end to conflict but also laid the foundation for sustained development in the region.

CP Radhakrishnan highlighted the progress made in the Northeast, stating that development initiatives have significantly benefited the region's youth. He added that Mizoram will play an important role in helping India realize the vision of Vikshit Bharat 2047.

The Vice President also emphasised the central government's priority to accelerate development in the Northeast. He pointed to major infrastructure projects underway in the state, including a railway line connecting Aizawl to the rest of the country. He further noted that the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project is nearing completion, which is expected to enhance trade opportunities with neighbouring countries.

Describing Mizoram as an ideal destination for tourism, CP Radhakrishnan stressed the importance of preserving the state's forests and rivers. He urged young people to take an active role in protecting the environment for future generations.

Also addressing the gathering, Mizoram Gen (Rtd) Governor V. K. Singh congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to continue learning and developing their skills. He said Mizoram University ranks among the top universities in the country and has produced many distinguished graduates.

Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma highlighted the critical role of youth in a rapidly developing world and urged them to contribute to the state's progress. He noted that Mizoram has earned recognition as a highly educated state and expressed confidence that its young people have a promising future. He added that initiatives are underway to make Mizoram the first fully digital state, with Mizoram University playing a key role in the effort.

A total of 6,385 students were awarded degrees at the convocation ceremony, including 147 recipients of Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The event also honoured 43 gold medallists and two book prize winners.
