Mizoram Legislative Assembly Budget Session begins with a pledge of transparency and development

The 9th Session of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly commenced today, February 17, 2026, at 10:30 am at the Assembly House.

Addressing the members at the opening of the Budget Session, Governor Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh said he was pleased that Mizoram continues to remain a peaceful state under the stewardship of prudent leadership, while also making steady progress in economic growth and overall development. He expressed confidence that, with a clear and focused vision, the state could emerge as a model of peace and progress, inspiring people with the belief that aspirations can indeed be realised.

The Governor emphasised that the present administration is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in governance. He said the government is working to strengthen the state’s economy through improvements in agriculture, infrastructure and industrial development. Efforts are also being made to maximise the use of bamboo and other locally sourced products to boost economic opportunities.

He further highlighted initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and encouraging greater participation of young people in sports across the state. The Governor also expressed hope that members of the House would uphold the tradition of respectful and constructive debate established by their predecessors.

The Ninth Legislative Assembly session is scheduled to continue until March 16, 2026. A total of 1,223 starred questions and 407 unstarred questions have been submitted for the sixth sitting, along with three amendment Bills and one additional Bill.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma is set to present the Mizoram Budget for 2026–2027 on February 26, 2026.
