Aizawl, March 17 Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh on Tuesday emphasized the need to understand "local dynamics" before making policy decisions, during an interaction with a high-level research team at Lok Bhavan here, officials said.

Speaking with the 12-member multi-disciplinary team from the Centre for Contemporary China Studies (CCCS), Singh said that policy decisions must be based on ground-level perspectives to avoid potential errors in judgment.

The CCCS team, a think tank under the Ministry of External Affairs led by Joint Secretary Aparna Ray, is currently on a 10-day tour of the northeast.

The team arrived in Aizawl on Monday for a two-day visit.

The visit aims to familiarize the team with the ground realities along the India-Myanmar border, and to understand the perspectives of local civil and security administrations, the officials said. Mizoram shares a 510-km border with Myanmar.

During the meeting, Singh described Mizoram as a "well-organized society" and one of the country's most peaceful states, characterized by strong political stability and a lack of major inter-tribal rivalries.

Despite a revenue deficit in its agriculture-heavy economy, the governor told the visiting analysts that the state is "progressing steadily" with a focus on aggressive infrastructure development.

Singh said the recent extension of the railway line to Sairang has brought Aizawl onto the country's railway map for the first time in history.

He also detailed ongoing plans to extend railway lines to southern Mizoram, connecting with the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project.

This initiative, along with the Central government's vibrant villages program for border infrastructure, is expected to significantly transform the northeast, the governor said.

The CCCS team shared their preliminary observations about the region with the governor.
