Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma stated that descendants of Zo people residing in Manipur are permitted to stay at Mizoram Houses located in various parts of the country.
Responding to a question raised by the MLA of Champhai constituency during the Assembly session on Monday, the Chief Minister, who is also in charge of the GAD, clarified that descendants of Zo communities living in Manipur are eligible to book rooms at Mizoram Houses situated in several major cities. He emphasised that the guidelines governing these guest houses do not restrict accommodation exclusively to residents of Mizoram.
Replying to supplementary queries, Pu Lalduhoma noted that acquiring land for the construction of Mizoram Houses in other states requires substantial financial resources. He revealed that discussions are currently underway with BSNL to explore the possibility of constructing Mizoram Houses, or equivalent facilities, on land owned by the telecom company in different states under a monetisation scheme.
He explained that the state government would engage a private builder for construction, while funds would be sanctioned by the land-owning agency. The Chief Minister expressed hope that Mizoram Houses could be established in various parts of the country without placing a financial burden on the state exchequer. He also conveyed regret over the sale of the former Mizoram House property in Ballygunge, Kolkata, adding that the matter is currently under judicial consideration.
In a written reply, the Chief Minister further informed the House that the “Construction of Mizoram Guest House at Lamka, Manipur” project under the PMJVK is in progress. The Planning & Programme Implementation Department had proposed the project to the GAD; however, no funds have yet been sanctioned for its execution.
