Palm Sunday was celebrated throughout Mizoram on Sunday with great religious enthusiasm to commemorate Jesus Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem before his crucifixion.
Children from various churches organized Palm Sunday processions in the early morning. They walked through the streets of towns and villages, carrying palm leaves, chanting "Hosanna," and singing songs to remember and celebrate Jesus's triumphant arrival in the holy city.
The processions organized by the respective churches were also joined by some adults. The Palm Sunday processions and the children chanting "Hosanna" in the morning are an integral part of Palm Sunday celebrations in Mizoram. Special church services and prayer services were also held, along with local churches of different Christian denominations singing Christian hymns across the state.
Different churches delivered sermons related to Palm Sunday, which is locally known as "Tumkau Ni," and some local churches also held congregational singing services called "zaikhawm" on this occasion. Churches also served special refreshments as part of the celebration.
According to the Bible, Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem on a donkey on the last Sunday before his crucifixion.
The crowds spread their cloaks and palm leaves on the street and shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David" and "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord" to honor him as their long-awaited Messiah and King.
