Mizoram Prepares for Expanded Electoral Roll Update

Mizoram Prepares for Expanded Electoral Roll Update.webp

Preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls have largely been completed by Mizoram election officials, as the Election Commission of India (ECI) expects the SIR to begin in 22 states and Union Territories, including Mizoram, starting in April. Officials from the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office stated this on Monday.

The officials noted a significant difference between the last SIR in 2004 and the current situation in Mizoram. While there were only 795 polling stations in the state in 2004, there are now 1,353 polling stations in the 40 assembly constituencies.

They added that the rationalization of polling stations, ensuring that each polling station has no more than 1,200 voters, has been approved by the ECI and has been updated in the staging database of ERONET.

As instructed by the ECI, training has already been provided to District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and Block Level Officers (BLOs), while all vacant positions for DEO, ERO, AERO, and BLO have been filled. "A workshop for political parties will be organized on February 27," they added.
