Aizawl, February 17 Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated the Lengtekai bridge over the Tlawng river on Tuesday, a key infrastructure project that connects Aizawl with Lengpui Airport and the Mamit district.
The project, valued at Rs 43.83 crore, was funded by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The 100-meter-long steel structure, officially named the 'Faith Bridge,' represents a significant upgrade to the state's transport network, replacing the aging Bailey structures that frequently suffered from load restrictions and damage.
The 7.5-meter-wide structure, which includes 1.5-meter-wide footpaths on both sides, is designed to carry loads of up to 385 metric tons, according to officials.
Speaking at the inauguration, Lalduhoma said the project is a symbol of reliability and trust.
He described the bridge as a milestone in strengthening the state's core infrastructure, which will ensure uninterrupted traffic flow.
The CM said the bridge will serve as a vital corridor for the Mamit district, which has a population of approximately 85,000 people across 90 villages, according to the 2011 census.
