Baltimore, March 8 – Inter Miami CF secured a 1-2 victory on the road against D.C. United, earning three points. Goals from midfield maestro Rodrigo De Paul and captain Leo Messi led Inter Miami to victory this afternoon at M&T Bank Stadium, in front of a record-breaking home crowd of 72,026 fans for D.C. United.
Miami took the lead in the 17th minute, with De Paul scoring his first goal of the season. Berterame applied pressure on the left side and regained possession near the endline before passing back to Segovia inside the box.
Segovia then found De Paul on the right end of the box, where El Motorcito took a touch before unleashing a right-footed shot into the top-left corner. This was Segovia's third assist in the regular season.
Messi added the second goal in the 27th minute, extending Inter Miami's lead to 2-0. A fantastic pass from Silvetti on the left flank found Messi in space down the left inside the box, where our captain sent the ball into the back of the net with a neat chip over the goalkeeper.
This goal took Messi's tally to three in the regular season, while Silvetti's assist was his first. Notably, this was Messi's 80th goal in Inter Miami colors.
The hosts reduced the deficit in the second half with a goal from Tai Baribo in the 75th minute.
The 2-1 scoreline held until the final whistle, allowing Inter Miami to secure a second consecutive win in the MLS regular season.
"I think the first half was very good. We controlled the game, we created chances. Perhaps in the second half we struggled more…" said head coach Javier Mascherano.
"I think we have to focus on the positives. We've won two out of three away games. There's a lot to improve on, but it's always better to improve after a victory," he added.
Inter Miami will next face Nashville SC on Wednesday in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16.
