Kewal Kumar, a progressive farmer from Dhanu village in the Tikri block of Udhampur, has revolutionized his farming practices after 35 years of traditional agriculture by adopting modern techniques supported by government schemes.
A major turning point in his journey came with the installation of a Polyhouse under a 95% government subsidy, which protects his crops from unpredictable weather such as heavy rain, storms, and hailstorms, which previously caused significant losses.
Using the protected environment of the Polyhouse, Kumar successfully cultivated hybrid tomatoes this season and achieved a bumper harvest. The high-quality produce has attracted buyers directly to his farm, enabling him to sell his crop at better prices without relying heavily on the market.
Kumar also practices organic farming by avoiding chemical inputs, which he says has improved the taste and quality of his produce. He expressed gratitude to Narendra Modi for government initiatives that are helping farmers adopt modern techniques and improve their livelihoods.
