
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security to review the situation and mitigation measures in the context of the ongoing West Asia conflict. Mr. Modi stated that the conflict is an evolving situation, and the entire world is affected in some way. He emphasized that, in such a situation, all efforts must be made to protect citizens from the impact of this conflict.
The Prime Minister instructed that all government agencies should work together to ensure the least inconvenience to citizens. He also requested proper coordination with state governments to prevent black marketing and hoarding of essential commodities. The Prime Minister directed the formation of a group of ministers and secretaries to work in a whole-of-government approach. He also instructed sectoral groups to work in consultation with all stakeholders.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, during the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan gave a detailed presentation on the global situation and the mitigation measures taken and planned by all concerned Ministries and Departments.
The discussion included the expected impact and measures taken to address it across sectors such as agriculture, fertilizers, food security, petroleum, power, MSMEs, exporters, shipping, trade, finance, supply chains, and all affected sectors. In addition, the overall macroeconomic scenario in the country and further measures to be taken were also discussed.
The meeting also made a detailed assessment of the availability of essential goods for the common man, including food, energy, and fuel security. Short-term, medium-term, and long-term measures to ensure the continued availability of essential goods were discussed.
Several measures were discussed in the meeting to diversify the sources of imports required by chemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, and other industrial sectors, and to develop new export destinations for Indian goods in the near future. The release added that several measures proposed by different ministries will be prepared and implemented in the coming days after consultation with all stakeholders.
