March 18, New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fire incident in Palam, Delhi, and announced ex-gratia compensation for the affected families.

Expressing his condolences, the Prime Minister extended heartfelt sympathies to those who lost their loved ones and prayed for the earliest recovery of the injured.

The Prime Minister’s Office shared his message on X, stating:

"The fire incident in Palam, Delhi, is deeply saddening. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF will be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured will be given Rs. 50,000: PM"

A massive fire broke out in a residential building in Delhi's Palam, near a metro station, on Wednesday morning, prompting a large-scale firefighting and rescue operation.

Seven people, including three children, were rescued from the building by Delhi Fire Service personnel and rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead. Two people jumped from the building in an attempt to escape the flames and were admitted to the hospital.
