
Jaipur, April 11 Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Saturday said that the country is progressing rapidly on the path of social unity and harmony under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a programme in Bandikui in Dausa district to mark the birth anniversary of social reformer Jyotiba Phule, Sharma said the prime minister was carrying forward Phule's mission of social justice and empowerment.
He said that Phule devoted his life to the upliftment of women, farmers, labourers and other marginalized sections of society.
The chief minister said that Phule worked extensively for women's rights, opening shelters for widows and orphans and encouraging education for girls.
He said that the state government was working with commitment for the welfare of the poor, farmers, youth and women.
"The centre and the state government are working in coordination for development. Several welfare schemes were benefiting large sections of society," he said.
Sharma said that more than 25 crore people had been lifted out of poverty in the country under various central schemes.
The chief minister said that under state initiatives, farmers were receiving increased financial support under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and additional incentives for wheat procurement.
He claimed that over 1.25 lakh government appointments had been made in Rajasthan, and recruitment for another 1.25 lakh posts had been initiated.
The chief minister alleged that the previous Congress government had been responsible for paper leak incidents and asserted that no such incidents had taken place under the present government.
Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa said that the lives of Phule and Dr Ambedkar inspire people to overcome challenges and work towards equality and women's empowerment.
Several public representatives and a large number of people attended the event.
