Itanagar, March 13 Arunachal Pradesh Minister Gabriel Denang Wangsu said on Friday that the supply and availability of LPG cylinders and petroleum products in the state is normal, and urged people to avoid panic buying that could lead to artificial shortages.
In a social media post after reviewing the situation with senior officials, the civil supplies and consumer affairs minister said the government is closely monitoring the distribution of LPG and petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL) products across all districts to ensure uninterrupted availability.
"Reviewed the supply and availability of LPG and POL products along with the Chief Secretary, Secretary and Director, Food & Civil Supplies, Coordinator Oil Marketing Companies and Deputy Commissioners across the districts this morning," Wangsu said in a post on X.
He said the department and the oil companies assure people that the supply chain is functioning normally.
"The state food & civil supplies department and the oil marketing companies assure that the supplies of LPG and POL products are operating normally and their distributions are being constantly monitored to ensure continuous availability," the minister stated.
Wangsu urged people not to resort to panic buying.
"We urge the general public to avoid panic buying of the LPG and POL products and purchase only what is needed for normal consumption so that artificial shortages are not created," he said.
As a precautionary step to prevent hoarding and ensure equitable distribution, the minister said that a waiting period has been introduced between LPG bookings.
"As a precautionary measure, a 25-day waiting period between the bookings of LPG has been introduced," Wangsu said.
He also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found indulging in hoarding or black marketing.
"Any person or business entity found engaging in hoarding and black marketing thereby creating artificial scarcity may face strict action under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and other relevant regulations," the minister said.
Wangsu further urged people not to spread rumours on social media that could create unnecessary panic.
"It is also requested to the general public not to fall prey to any rumour mongers or share unverified, alarming messages on social media," he said, adding, "Rest assured, your government stands with you."
The minister's appeal comes amid concerns in several parts of the country over rising LPG prices and supply pressures, which have triggered anxiety among consumers and sporadic panic buying in some regions.
The recent increase in domestic LPG prices has added to the burden on households already grappling with inflation, making cooking gas affordability a major issue in many states.
