Mosque Construction in Murshidabad: Funding Source Under Scrutiny.webp

Kolkata, February 17 BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari claimed on Tuesday that the founder of JUP, Humayun Kabir, has received half the funding for his mosque, modeled after the Babri Masjid, from Bangladesh.

Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal assembly, claimed that Kabir went to Bangladesh on September 28 last year for a week to arrange the funds.

"Kabir has managed 50 per cent of the funding for his mosque in Beldannga, Murshidabad, from Bangladeshi donors, including individuals associated with organizations like Jamaat. He is covertly helping the TMC to counter the anti-Mamata Banerjee sentiment among minorities," Adhikari claimed.

Claiming that Kabir was "the link between Jamaat and TMC", he alleged, "Islamic fundamentalists are consolidating their bases on both sides of the border between India and Bangladesh. This situation is alarming for Bengali Hindus."

Kabir, who was expelled by the TMC, responded and claimed that Adhikari has lost his sanity, which is "evident from his wild claims."

Confirming that he had indeed visited Bangladesh during that time, Kabir said, "My itinerary is open for scrutiny, and there is nothing to hide. I returned to India on October 10 at 5 pm via Malda. If Suvendu Adhikari wants, I can share my entire travel schedule with him."

"I cannot imagine anyone stooping to this level and linking my visit to Bangladesh with the Babri Masjid funding, for which people from across India have generously donated, and everything is transparent," he added.

Kabir said he had gone to Bangladesh to meet his friends and relatives.

He said that Adhikari should seek a CBI or ED investigation to trace the source of funding for the mosque, as well as his visit to Bangladesh.

Kabir laid the foundation stone of the mosque on December 6, the day the Babri Masjid was demolished in Ayodhya.
