Mirzapur (UP), March 21 Two men who were riding a motorcycle were killed in a road accident while returning after purchasing goods for Eid in the Katra Kotwali area, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur road in Basahi on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday when a motorcycle collided with the bucket of a JCB machine from behind, they said.
Katra Station House Officer (SHO) Baidyanath Singh said the victims, identified as Shahbaz, 19, and Arif, 20, residents of Badi Basahi, were returning from the market after purchasing goods for the festival.
The accident took place near Bhagwati Hotel in Natwa Basahi, he said, adding that their bodies were found in a mangled condition on the road.
Police have taken the bodies into custody and sent them for post-mortem. Further legal proceedings are underway, officials added.
