Kushinagar (UP), March 10 Three men were killed and another was seriously injured after two motorcycles collided head-on on a four-lane road in Kushinagar district, Uttar Pradesh, police said on Tuesday.

The accident occurred around 11 pm on Monday near the Ghazipur temple, under the Tamkuhiraj police station area, they said.

According to police, Vijay Gupta (24) and his friend Golu Maddheshia (27), both residents of Padrauna town, were returning home on a motorcycle after attending a 'tilak' ceremony on Monday night.

At the same time, Deepu Prasad (27) and Chhote Prasad (21), also from Padrauna, were heading back on another motorcycle after attending a function when the two bikes collided head-on at high speed.

Vijay, Deepu, and Chhote died in the accident, while Golu was admitted to the BRD Medical College Hospital in Gorakhpur with serious injuries, police said.

Hearing the loud crash and cries for help, villagers from the nearby areas rushed to the spot, while traffic on the road remained affected for about an hour following the accident.

Tamkuhiraj SHO Sunil Verma said that legal formalities have been completed and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

The accident occurred due to speeding, he added.
