Latur, April 5 The police in Latur city, Maharashtra, have registered cases against eight motorcycle riders for using modified mufflers that produce excessive noise, an official said on Sunday.

The action was taken as part of a drive carried out on Saturday to enforce traffic discipline, curb noise pollution, and ensure public safety, he said.

One of the riders was found operating a motorcycle fitted with a modified muffler producing 101.7 decibels, well above permissible limits, he said. A total of eight cases were registered, he said.

"Such noise pollution causes severe inconvenience to senior citizens, women, children, and patients suffering from heart conditions and other illnesses. Motorcycle riders causing noise pollution will face action," the official added.
