Bhopal, March 26 The Madhya Pradesh Congress has demanded a judicial probe into the bus-related accident in Chhindwara on Thursday, in which 10 people died and 31 were injured.
The accident occurred at 7 pm near Simaria on the Nagpur Road, when the bus was returning with people who had attended a function in which Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for projects costing Rs 506 crore.
In a Facebook post, MP Congress president Jitu Patwari alleged that people were brought to the function through inducement and pressure, which led to the tragedy.
Calling it the government's collective failure, Patwari said the accident resulted from administrative negligence and demanded that criminal cases be registered against the concerned officials and organizers.
He claimed that several innocent people lost their lives due to "political maneuvering."
"People were forced to gather due to pressure from the administration and the police. Despite the program being pre-announced, no adequate security arrangements were made. There should be an impartial judicial inquiry into the incident, and its report must be made public," he said.
Patwari also sought proper medical arrangements for the seriously injured and adequate compensation and justice for the families of the deceased.
Earlier, speaking to reporters, Sunil Pawar, a relative of the victim Daulat Parkara, claimed that vehicles packed with people came to the CM's function at the direction of the local panchayat.
