Bhopal, March 17 To emphasize its focus on cow protection, the Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday changed the name of the state veterinary department to "Gaupal and Pashupal Department," an official said.

Previously, it was known as the Pashupal and Dairy Development Department.

Further, the Directorate of Pashupal and Dairy was renamed as "Directorate of Gaupal and Pashupal."

The decision was taken by the state cabinet at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the official said.

The cabinet approved amendments to the schedule under the Madhya Pradesh Work (Allocation) Rules for this purpose.

Besides, it approved Rs 4,525 crore for various development and maintenance works under the Public Works Department.

It also decided to provide a bonus of Rs 40 per quintal on wheat procured from farmers at the support price in the 2026-27 Rabi marketing year, the official said.

The cabinet also approved Rs 945.20 crore for the construction of a four-lane elevated corridor from Chimanganj Market to Indore Gate and a two-lane elevated corridor from Nikas Chauraha to Indore Gate in the Ujjain city.

Additionally, Rs 228.42 crore was approved for the Panwar Micro Irrigation Project in the Rewa district.
