Mumbai, February 22 More than one lakh motorists who were stranded in a massive traffic jam on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway earlier this month due to a gas tanker accident will receive a cumulative toll refund worth approximately ₹5.16 crore, a senior official of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation said on Sunday.
On February 3, a gas tanker overturned on the Khopoli stretch of the Expressway, causing a 33-hour disruption that brought traffic to a standstill for several kilometers, leaving many motorists and passengers without access to water, food, and other essential amenities.
Following the accident, the administration ordered the immediate suspension of toll collection. However, by then, toll charges had already been deducted from the FASTag accounts of several motorists.
"It has been decided to refund the entire amount collected from vehicle owners, even after the order to halt toll collection was issued. The ₹5.16 crore refund will be processed by MSRDC. The amount will be directly credited to the FASTag accounts of affected vehicle owners in the coming days," the official told
