Mughal Road Remains Closed Amid Snowfall.webp

In Jammu and Kashmir, the historic Mughal Road, the alternative national highway connecting the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu division with the Shopian district in the Kashmir valley, remained closed to vehicular traffic for the fourth consecutive day today due to fresh snowfall and rain at Pir Ki Gali. Akashvani Jammu correspondent reports that the road will remain closed until further orders, as snowfall continues in the upper reaches of the Pir Panjal Range and heavy rains persist in the plains of Poonch. However, all major roads in the Poonch district are open for traffic movement. The closure of the road has been enforced to ensure the safety of commuters travelling through the mountainous stretch, where fresh snowfall has made driving conditions hazardous. SSP Traffic Rural Farooq Qaser advised commuters to avoid travelling on the Mughal Road and urged the public not to move towards the route until it is officially reopened. Meanwhile, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has intensified snow clearance operations on the Basohli-Bani-Bhaderwah road, which has been severely affected by heavy snowfall over the past three days. The Chenab Valley remains cut off from the Kathua district, disrupting connectivity and movement. BRO has deployed additional manpower and machinery, and clearance work is being carried out at a rapid pace to restore traffic as soon as possible and provide relief to stranded commuters.
