Mughal Road Reopens, Connecting Kashmir to Border Districts

Mughal Road Reopens, Connecting Kashmir to Border Districts.webp

In Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have ordered the reopening of the 40-kilometer-long Mughal Road, connecting Shopian to Peer Ki Gali, for vehicular traffic from Friday. This will significantly improve connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Akashvani Jammu correspondent reports that traffic on National Highway-701A, which covers the stretch from Shopian (Km 0.00) to Peer Ki Gali (Km 40.550), will be permitted from February 27, 2026. The resumption of traffic is subject to favorable weather conditions and any unforeseen circumstances. Commuters are advised to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the traffic police. The Commanding Officer of the 52 RCC (GREF), BRO, has been directed to maintain personnel and equipment along the stretch to address any obstacles caused by landslides, avalanches, or falling rocks, ensuring smooth passage for vehicles. Meanwhile, the SSP, Shopian, ARTO Shopian, and the Deputy SP Traffic have been tasked with deploying sufficient personnel to ensure strict compliance with the order. The Mughal Road remains closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall and slippery road conditions.
