Light motor vehicles resumed movement on the historic Mughal Road after snow clearance operations along the Pir Panjal stretch, officials said.
February 27, Srinagar: The historic Mughal Road was reopened for traffic on Friday after being closed due to recent snowfall, with light motor vehicles allowed to use the route, officials said.
The strategic road connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Poonch in the Jammu region was opened following snow clearance operations by the relevant agencies.
Accumulated snow at vulnerable points along the Pir Panjal range had rendered the road temporarily unsafe for traffic earlier this week, officials said.
After reviewing surface conditions and ensuring safe passage, authorities permitted the movement of light motor vehicles. Traffic officials said that vehicles were moving smoothly, with no major bottlenecks reported in the initial hours after reopening.
The Mughal Road serves as an alternative link between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu division and is often closed during winter due to heavy snowfall at high-altitude stretches, including Peer Ki Gali.
Authorities advised commuters to follow traffic advisories and adhere to safety guidelines while traveling on the mountainous route.
