Mumbai, March 11 The Mumbai police fined 20 lakh motorists in 2025 for traffic violations, with 50 per cent of them for improper parking, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday.

In a written reply to a question in the legislative council, Fadnavis, who is also the Home Minister, said that the police in Mumbai issued challans to 20,38,440 motorists last year.

Of these, 10,46,819 challans were issued for improper parking, he said.

The traffic department took action against 1,636 vehicles in Mumbai city and its suburbs for parking on sidewalks, the CM said.

Fadnavis said that 4,34,491 motorists were given traffic tickets for jumping signals, while 4,91,714 two-wheeler riders faced action for not wearing helmets.

The CM said that 64,416 motorists were issued challans for using incorrect license plates.

The Regional Transport Office in Mumbai city and its suburbs took action against 18,368 vehicles with elaborate license plates from April 1, 2024, to January 31, 2026.
